When Japan’s leader, Grand Regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi prohibits samurai from committing hara kiri to follow their lords in death it leads master of the spear Kurando into a life of drunken despair. As he leaves behind the samurai life and takes up with a beautiful geisha named Umeme political upheaval continues as Hideyoshi dies and Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari vie for power leading at last to the Battle of Sekigahara which draws Kurando into the ultra violent showdown. Drawn from true events, this is history brought to life. Director Uchida Tomu follows his critique of the samurai code first started in A Bloody Spear on Mt. Fuji with this scathing view of the martial ways of old Japan. Another masterpiece from this brilliant filmmaker explodes on the screen with superb battle scenes and expert fighting from Kurando the Master Spearman!
