Following the events of the first film, Sanzo continues down his deadbeat spiral of a life while Gosuke has settled down with a hen-pecking mother of an obnoxious brood of rugrats. It doesn't take much for both to reunite and flee their situations, once again partnered on the grifter's road. This time they come to the aid of two desperate parents trying to get their son to Hitoyoshi Castle, where the secret of his birth upends the succession of a wealthy clan's leadership. The villainous and corrupt status quo will have none of it though, and the trail becomes a blood-soaked path of intrigue. Our renegade ninja unleash their best scams and sharpest shuriken alongside guest star Shihomi Etsuko as a sword-slinger with her own agenda. Packed with the franchise's usual sword fights and comedic touches, Hell's Lullaby adds a layer of heartbreak and emotion to an already excellent series, with a top notch cast as always.
