ADVENTURE NINJA - TV COLLECTION
SOLD OUT
The gritty, realistic black & white shinobi cinema of the 1960s gave way to garish colorful television series of the 70s that pushed the envelope of ninja adventure. The landmark tokusatsu Masked Ninja Akakage (The Red Shadow, adapted from the Yokoyama manga) saw a trio of superhero ninja defend the land from evil kaiju-summoning wizards. This was the second major ninja series for Maki ”Tonbei the Mist” Fuyukichi of The Samurai fame. Another manga come to life, Henshin Ninja Arashi, from the same creators as Kamen Rider, featured an iconic bird-themed horseman battling an array of bizarre creatures. The rare gem Yojutsu Bugeicho (Chronicle of Ninja Magic) had a dashing young samurai, a burly karate monk, and a squad of Iga shinobi resisting a conspiracy of Chinese sorcerers using hypnotic Hindu black magic in one of the downright weirdest shows you’ll ever encounter. These select TV episodes are loaded with ambitious special effects and ninja action galore, with some unforgettable theme songs as well.
