Ikenami Shotaro, the master of historical novels, wrote the original story upon which this film is based. Written by Ikenami for the famed hinkokugeki (New National Theater Co.), it has a strong historical basis. This was also the starting point of his writing career. Genshichi is a traveling enforcer, his lightning swordplay brutally cutting down the enemies of any gang boss who pays cash. He turns his back on love on family to walk this violent path…only finding peace and a kind of family life when he grows older. But will the choices he made in his youth and the enemies who have sworn to kill him bring a bloody end to his happiness?
