The tragic story of star-crossed lovers Ogin and Ukon that rocked Japanese history is brought to life with an all-star cast led by Mifune Toshiro and the beautiful Nakano Ryoko. Ogin is the stepdaughter of Japan’s leading tea master, Sen Rikyu who offended the nation’s leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi and was ordered to commit ritual suicide. Although she was betrothed to Takayama Ukon, her stepfather’s death prevented the marriage and while Ukon became a Christian and got married Ogin caught the eye of Hideyoshi (masterfully portrayed by Mifune). When Ogin and Ukon meet again their love for each other imperils their lives by infuriating the jealous Lord Hideyoshi. A drama straight from Japanese history that raises filmmaking to high art!
