Japanese history comes to life with a depiction of the battle between Portuguese forces and Arima Harunobu, a Christian daimyo. After the murder of Japanese civilians in Macau, Harunobu swears to avenge their deaths and free those held captive aboard a ship anchored in Nagasaki harbor. Seeking approval from the retired shogun, Ieyasu, Harunobu is forced to take matters into his own hands. This incident is little known outside of the land of the rising sun, but in many ways led to the eradication of Japanese Christians at Shimabara, and expulsion of the Portuguese who were replaced by Dutch traders who did not pose a religious threat. A great story with superstar Ichikawa Raizo in one of his best performances as the vengeful daimyo. Not to be missed!
