When Iwane and his two best friends return to their homeland from sword training in Edo it leads to unimaginable tragedy. Forced to use his peerless swordsmanship Iwane leaves the clan and returns to Edo, filleting eels during the day and working as a bodyguard at night for a reputable money exchanger. With his unique sword style, called “Sword of Serenity,” he faces off against a trio of ronin troublemakers. Meanwhile political upheaval is being plotted against the leader of the shogun’s council as part of a conspiracy to sabotage a new monetary system implemented by the government. Though still trying to recover from the anguish he suffered back home, Iwane must again take up the sword in to protect those who supported him.
