Lord Onuma uses stolen gold, bribing bureaucrats and officials to rise in the shogunate. Soon he’ll be the shogun’s top advisor. Keinosuke bitterly opposes him, to avenge the father Onuma murdered, tasking his supporters to capture and kill every accomplice to Onuma’s treachery, and save his beloved, the beautiful Mitsue, trapped in Onuma’s web. Onuma sends thugs to crush Keinosuke, but… Enter Hanjiro, (Ichikawa Raizo) wily trickster and peerless swordsman, who foils every plan, blocks every stratagem of both sides, rousing common folk to join the oncoming struggle. Who will live, who will die, when all these schemes have ended?
