The works of author Fujisawa Shuhei have reached their pinnacle with this tale of  a clan’s vengeance against a deserter who had formerly been one of their most highly skilled swordsmen.  This mission is assigned to Inui Sakanosuke, the only man in the clan who has a chance of emerging victorious.  What might have been a simple tale of justice is complicated by the fact that the deserter Sakuma is the brother-in-law of Inui, and his best friend.  Sakuma’s wife, Tazu, is also a highly skilled fencer, as both Inui children were taught by their father how to excel with the blade.  This is a superb motion picture that raises the level of Fujisawa’s work to a new level!
