The legendary gunmen of Saika have fallen out of favor, long neglected by the shogunate. Exiled to the mountains of Kishu, they scratch out a living, using their famed rifle skills for hunting. Soon, political conspirators see an opportunity to turn the gunmen’s resentment against the shogunate to their advantage. Sullen, frustrated Magoshiro, son of the Saika leader, is easily drawn into their plans and hatches a plot to kill Shogun Yoshimune.
